VTS
Aylesbury VTS is a dynamic and innovative scheme noted for its range of jobs, excellent MRCGP results and creative approach to learning. The new curriculum and MRCGP will be incorporated into a scheme that has encompassed a comprehensive appraisal system with trainer and consultant mid term appraisals for the past 10 years. Our pilot programmes of 2 years and 18 months as opposed to 1 year in General Practice have highlighted how we can design future GP training, our community jobs allow for general practice experience in settings other than the practice. These jobs then augment community, outpatients experience and practice placement to “fill the gaps”.
We will endeavour to provide you with a personalised scheme that reflects both your foundation year experiences and your future aspirations. You will be attached to a GP practice from the very start, thereby allowing you to focus on becoming an excellent GP from day one. You will build a 3 year relationship with your GP Trainer/mentor who will lead the educational appraisal during your hospital placements. They will also arrange GP contact throughout your training. Your VTS Course Organiser and Trainer work together to provide ongoing support and education.
Extra Value
Our programme can be part of a postgraduate Masters award. You can complete a Postgrad Certificate in Primary Care during your time on the scheme. Additionally, we support Public Health experience, have Primary Care Organisation links, and research programmes for you to link in with. We are looking to support electives in other primary care settings during you time in General Practice.
